Our Friend Julie
A shy little smile and hair tied in plaits
Skinny legs and a short pinafore
An ex Yorkshire lass, new to the class
This was the Julie we saw
Funny and smart, good at French, maths, and art
But reluctant for double P.E.
Not very sporty and a little bit naughty
This was Julie, Year 3
A bright patchwork jacket and red velvet loons
Worn with a whiff of patchouli
With her long wavy hair and that warm brown-eyed stare
This was the teenager Julie
Training to teach down in Brighton
She'd got Education all sewn up
Confident, clever, she made friends forever
This was Julie the grown up
As a mummy of three, we all could see
That motherhood was her vocation
With Gotty, they both, nurtured their growth
With lots of love and dedication
Transforming a barn down in Suffolk
And taming a garden unruly
Her mission and vision all came to fruition
This was the creative Julie
And through these last years, she's faced all her fears
With courage and grace, and so truly
We will never forget the friend that we met
Sleep peacefully now lovely Julie x
